For those seeking remarkable engineering underlying powerful music; listen up! This disk is commonly used by touring audio engineers to ‘ring the room’ in advance of mixing a live rock show. First, that tells you this music sounds good LOUD. Secondly, the pros use it because its’ engineering is perfection: crisp high end, clear and prominent mid-range, clean and powerful lows. The dynamic range is perfect of EQ-ing your PA system. Trust me. 20,000 people every night agree with me.

After hearing Delta Rain for the first time, I was haunted by it; that, as well as the fact that I couldn’t find out who the artist was. Time past, and I find myself having dinner with some friends in England, with a particularly nice tape playing in the other room. I was involved in Conversation, and, didn’t mention the music until Delta Rain came on, and, I just about jumped out of my chair. My hosts told me all about it. Then, they asked me to pick up the CD in the States for them. To this point, I thought the artist was American, due to the atmosphere that the music set for me. Needless to say, it was almost totally unavailable, aside from an import that went for around $45. I passed. Give it two more years. I am in a thrift store in Colorado Springs, digging through a pile of used tapes, when I come across a brand new cassette, still in the plastic. It was like provedence, finding this tape. Talk about a diamond hiding Among the rough. I never found the CD for my pals in the UK, but, I am on my 2nd tape, and, have just ordered the CD for myself. This jewel will last a lifetime. Wm. Topley is definitely an unsung master.

My brother bought a cassette copy of this album when I was about 16. He played it a few times, and I overheard, captured by the deep soulful voice of the singer, William Topley. I listened to this tape over and over until it was completely worn out. Thankfully, through Amazon, I was able to find a copy on CD which shouldn’t wear out for a long time! I can only echo the sentiments of others who have reviewed this CD. William Topley has a truly amazing voice – powerful and expressive. His songs, co-written by the other band members, are like poetry and stories set to unforgettable tunes. There is so much variety here, from the beautiful ballad ‘Delta Rain’ to the upbeat ‘Highway 5′ and the deep growl of ‘Back from Managua’. The musicians too are admirable, with some great guitar work and atmospheric background music on tracks like ‘I Want You’. This album will be appreciated by all who are tired of manufactured pop-rock which all sounds the same these days. This is real music, which will never go out of fashion.

William Topley’s deep soulful voice combined with outstanding lyrics make this a must have CD. Topley’s love of the water is apparent throughout the album. Slow music, fast music, with blues sounding rock beat, will have you arguing with yourself which cut is actually the best. For me its about a 5-way tie. This man is relatively unknown but one of the absolute best in terms of content and emotion. Be sure to read the lyrics along with the music. You will be captivated! People do not know him because of his old fashion values. He does not want to make music videos and entrusts his future to radio as in the old days..DO NOT MISS HIM IN CONCERT!..He is one of those performers that has the same sound in concert as on the CD. You will not sit down! Luke Brighty is an excellent lead guitarist and his backround vocals blend in perfectly with Mr. Topley’s. Mike Westerguard’s presence on the keyboards and in the engineering room help make this group the treasure that they are. Be prepared to listen to this CD nonstop for several months..It is just that good..This band made my Christmas shopping easy last year..No one will complain of getting the William Topley collection!..ENJOY!

…”Of Pirates & Poets”…On their debut effort..”Prince of the deep water” British band, The Blessing, explore that dark jungle of the human heart. Part tradewinds poet, part pirate balladeer, lead singer William Topley brews a steamy gumbo of percolating southern soul…american “Epic rock” & subtle hints of country & western song writing. From the radio friendly “Highway 5″ and it’s boogie, to the rock opera of the title cut, The Blessing create a song cycle that aspires to literary heights. Imagine Jimmy Buffett on steroids reading Hemingway and Richard Hughes while sitting in a harbor bar & Ray Charles plays over & over on a jukebox. This album is a hidden treasure, full of tales from the tradewinds, the tropics & the harbor bars where longing & lust have a voice and a syncopation…courtesy of William Topley and his jamaican blues posse, The Blessing. Buy this album and the ever-elusive 2nd album, “Locusts & Wild Honey”,as well as Topley’s first solo cd…”Black River”… and you will know what Hemingway would sound like if he were a musician.
